Rob Font Says UFC Vegas 27 Win Proves He’s “Legit”
By FCF Staff
After working his way to a clear-cut victory over Cody Garbrandt, Rob Font says there should be no doubt he’s an elite bantamweight.
Font faced the former champion in the headliner of UFC Vegas 27, and outstruck Garbrandt by a 183 to 78 margin. All three judges scored the fight for the 33-year-old.
While discussing the pivotal win afterward, Font had this to say (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“You go in there and go five rounds with Cody Garbrandt – was it (Dominick) Cruz that went five rounds with him?” Font asked. “And Cruz is a legend. You go five rounds with him and not get knocked out, you prove that you’re legit.”
Heading into Saturday’s card, Font was ranked #3 in the UFC’s bantamweight division and Garbrandt was #4. While discussing his hopes for his next bout, Font made it clear he’s willing to sit on the sidelines, if needed.
“I definitely don’t want to fight backwards,” Font said. “I’ve learned patience. I’ll be patient.”
Font has won four straight fights now and carries a record of 19-4. Garbrandt has lost three of his last four and saw his record drop to 12-4.
