It looks like the highly anticipated rematch between Robbie Lawler and Nick Diaz is still proceeding, despite a late request from the latter for the bout to be at middleweight.

Recently UFC President Dana White confirmed that Diaz has requested that his rematch this Saturday with Lawler, be contested at middleweight, rather than welterweight. The legends are book to fight at UFC 266.

While speaking to the media on Wednesday, the former welterweight champ Lawler, confirmed that he’s agreed to fight Diaz at the higher weight (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“We had a short conversation,” Lawler said. “It is what it is. I’m ready to fight. … I’m ready to go. That’s all that matters. Camp went well, and controlling the things I can control.”

“Obviously I’m a little light, but I’m strong, I’m fast – I’m ready to fight,” Lawler also stated. “I’m going to eat, try to feel comfortable.”

Diaz and Lawler fought for the first time in 2004, and the latter was knocked out in round two. UFC 266 is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the main event, featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski will take on Brian Ortega.
