Robert Whittaker’s Manager Discusses Timeline For Champ’s Return

Whittaker

By FCF Staff

After undergoing emergency surgery last weekend to repair a hernia, it looks like Robert Whittaker won’t be fighting until mid-2019 at the earliest.

The middleweight champion was scheduled to face Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 234, before it was discovered Whittaker had a hernia and the fight was called off. More recently, Whittaker’s manager Titus Day informed ESPN that the Australian resident has been released from the hospital.

While discussing a timeline for Whittaker’s next bout, Day said this:

“I’d say he’ll be able to fight next sometime between June and August depending on recovery,” Day said. “Hopefully closer to June.”

Whittaker hasn’t competed now since June, 2018, when he earned a split decision win over Yoel Romero at UFC 225.
