Ronda Rousey Says It’s Been “Surprising” How Happy She is Taking Break From Fighting
By FCF Staff
Ronda Rousey isn’t expected to return to the Octagon until the end of the year, and it doesn’t sound like the former champ’s going to shorten that timeline.
After Rousey was taken out by Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November, the fighter reported that she didn’t want to fight again until summer, 2016. More recently, Dana White relayed that the star had requested more time off, since the filming for “Roadhouse” had been pushed back. Rousey is starring in the remake.
Recently the bantamweight spoke with MMA Junkie, and while discussing her break from fighting, Rousey stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“I mean, my first year I fought six times. I feel like I’ve been burning the candle at both ends for a long time. In Judo, I took a good period of time off after the Beijing Olympics and I feel like I’m bodily and mentally in a similar space where it’s just what I need right now.”
“It’s been surprising to me how happy I’ve been being away from [fighting],” said Rousey. “I’m being purposefully mysterious right now because I think people have taken my availability for granted, and I’ve kind of just wanted to disappear.”
The 29 year-old won her first, 12 straight pro bouts before being stopped by Holm.
