  • Pitts Penn’s Ryan Broderick, whose blazing right cross sent David Theis to the canvas twice en route to a knockout.
  • The impressive performance by Joe Diamond MMA’s Anthony Morrison, who knocked out a very tough Rene Dreifuss to get the win.

HONOLULU–X-1 returned to the Blaisdell Arena on June 10 hoping to give local fighter Marcelo Tigre an opportunity to be considered among the world’s light heavyweight contenders.

Tigre is known for his win over UFC veteran Tim Lajcik in 2001 and his war against local hero Egan Inoue in 1999 that saw him get disqualified the first of three times in his career.

Tigre wanted to step up in competition, X-1 promoter Mike Miller said, and UFC veteran Trevor Prangley fit the bill.

Unfortunately for Miller and Hawaiian fans, once again Tigre brought controversy with him. First he reportedly missed his plane, then he reportedly did not pass his physical due to a broken hand.

In the substitute main event, Mark Moreno did a Chuck Liddell impersonation and landed an overhand right that closed John Geraghty’s eye and knocked him out.

Dylan Clay, a jiu-jitsu fighter from Maui, was also victorious and displayed fluid technique in his submission victory over a rugged Kimo Woelfel.

In other action, John Crisostomo of the 808 Fight Factory must have brushed off four years of ring rust during training because he technically schooled Chad Guzman.

Bryson Kamaka, who had fought the night before in California, was welcomed home by a huge right hand from Josh Ferreira that knocked Kamaka out. However, Ferreira finished with a soccer kick to a downed Kamaka and was disqualified.
