Ryan Hall’s game plan for his UFC 264 bout with Ilia Topuria was scrutinized and criticized by some. But, it sounds like an early injury, played a key role in how Hall approached the fight.

Hall repeatedly rolled at Topuria during the contest, in an effort to lock up the fighter’s legs and take the fight down. But, Hall was unable to secure any submissions, and Topuria finished him with strikes in round one.

More recently, Hall reported that he broke his hand, not long into the contest.

Well, that was going reasonably
well until it wasn’t. Headlock w 20 seconds left was a little ballsier than necessary…

Thanks so much to all the people whose help, guidance, and support allowed me to have the opportunity to get back to doing what I love. Without them, I could never have made it to the ring.

Thank you also to all the people who cheered or sent messages of support. I really appreciate it.

Broke my hand on the first punch landed, but cant wait to heal up, adjust, and be back again soon.

The 36-year-old Hall (8-2) had won eight straight fights prior to facing Topuria.
