Following the recent retirements of Jordan Mein, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Frankie Perez, Sam Stout is the latest UFC vet to announce he’s hanging up the gloves.

The UFC and Stout announced the news on Tuesday, less than two weeks after he was stopped by Perez at UFC Fight Night 74. Immediately after that bout, Perez announced he was calling it quits on pro MMA.

The loss to Perez was Stout’s third consecutive stoppage defeat, and the dropped the 31 year-old vet’s overall record to 20-12-1.

“I would have liked to go out on a high note, but that’s pretty rare in this sport,” Stout said in the aforementioned UFC story. “The first knockout loss with KJ, I said to myself, okay, KJ has knocked out some very tough guys, and that’s his thing; he’s a great boxer. The same thing with Ross Pearson. But after the third time, it’s not that Frankie Perez doesn’t know how to throw a punch, but he’s more of a grappler, so I got knocked out by a submission guy. Three in a row, I don’t want to risk my health. I’ve got a daughter to think about, and sometimes you just gotta know when to hang ‘em up.”

Stout made his UFC debut back in 2006, and worked his way to a split decision win over Spencer Fisher. The two went on to fight two more times, and Stout won their rubber match in 2012.

The London, Ontario fighter won fight of the night six times during his UFC run. Stout competed in 22 UFC bouts.
