After going through 2019 without competing, UFC welterweight contender Santiago Ponzinibbio is targeting his Octagon return.

Ponzinibbio (27-3) hasn’t fought since November, 2018, when he KO’d Neil Magny. The Argentinean spent time on the sidelines as a result of injury, and he was also forced out of a December bout with Robbie Lawler due to a staph infection.

More recently the 33-year-old spoke with MMA Junkie, and while discussing a timeline for his return and who he wants to fight, Ponzinibbio said this:

“I think June, around there, I can be ready for a fight,” Ponzinibbio said. “We’re looking at dates and opponents to close on a good fight. It’s important that’s a big fight because I have seven wins in a row, 15 fights under the promotion, so as soon as we can get a good fight, I’ll be back.”

“A top five or a big name,” Ponzinibbio relayed. “Sometimes it’s not a top five, but maybe a former champion like Robbie Lawler, Rafael dos Anjos, those are people who have great names in the company. Or Nate Diaz or (Anthony) Pettis, big names that may not be in the rankings, or a top five who’s not know much but who can give me a shot at the title.”

Ponzinibbio is currently riding a seven fight winning streak and he has not lost a bout since 2015.
