Although Donald Cerrone’s talked about returning to the lightweight division, following his win over Yancy Medeiros this past weekend, welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio‘s hoping to fight him at the UFC’s upcoming event in Chile.

Following Cerrone’s stoppage win over Medeiros at UFC FN 126, Ponzinibbio appeared on the latest “MMA Hour” episode. During the segment the Argentinian fighter had this to say about facing Cerrone (quote via MMA Fighting):

“The best options are Thompson and Cerrone because of their fighting styles. It would be a great show against either one of them, but Thompson is saying that he’s injured. After such a beautiful performance last night, Cerrone would be a great option.”

“I was watching Cerrone’s fight last night and he was really impressive,” the Argentinian said. “It was a good knockout. He has a lot of knockouts, and I think it would be a fun fight for the fans. Cerrone and I could do a fight that will go down in history, in an event that will already make history in Chile.”

Ponzinibbio is currently riding a a six fight winning streak, while Cerrone broke a three fight losing skid, with his win over Medeiros.

The UFC is expected to hold an event in Santiago, Chile on May 19th.
