Rory MacDonald is the latest, big name fighter whose UFC contract is up, and not surprisingly, Bellator is interested in talking with the welterweight contender.

MacDonald took on Stephen Thompson last weekend at UFC Fight Night 89, and lost to the vaunted striker via unanimous decision. The bout was the latest on the 26 year-old’s current deal. In recent weeks, MacDonald let it be know that he planned to test free agency, once his contract had ended.

Well, following Bellator’s Dynamite 2 card this weekend, the promotion’s president Scott Coker had this to say about MacDonald (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“It really comes down to, we’re Bellator, and we’re going to go after all free agents,” Coker said. “When [MacDonald’s] contract is up, and I think he might have some contingencies in the negotiation period, and we’re not going to breach any contracts. But when they are ready to talk, we’re here and Rory’s somebody we’d definitely be interested in when he’s free.”

MacDonald (18-4) is 3-2 in his last 5 bouts, and was coming off a thrilling, stoppage loss to champion Robbie Lawler prior to facing Thompson,
