SFT 28: Bantamweight Title Fight to Headline

By press release

SFT MMA Bantamweight Champion Wanderlay “Mexicano” Junior will make his first title defense against SFT Flyweight Champion Jean Matsumoto on August 5, headlining “SFT 28: Clash of Champions – Mexicano vs. Matshumoto,” in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

SFT 28 will be streamed exclusively on FITE in the United States and worldwide on pay per view via the FITE app and website (www.FITE.tv), starting at 6:00 p.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. PT, for only $14.99.

The 27-year-old Junior (10-3-0, SFT: 3-1-0) captured the then vacant title in his last fight on January 25, 2020, when he won a unanimous decision over Humberto Rangel, Jr. “Mexicano” will be challenged in the SFT 28 main event by undefeated Matsumoto (8-0-0, SFT: 3-0-0), who was crowned at SFT 16 and is moving up in weight to become a 2-divison SFT MMA champion.

“We’re excited about SFT 28 in general and ‘Mexicano vs. Matsumoto’ in particular,” SFT president David Hudson said. “SFT 27 was our official return after being idle more than six months due to COVID-19 restrictions and it was a tremendous success. The SFT 27 main event between Manoel Sousa and Brendo Bispo was an amazing fight. Manoel Sousa, if he keeps going the way he is, will be one of the all-time greats. But we fully expect SFT 28 to be even more entertaining, because of a great main event and solid supporting fights: 4 in MMA, plus 3 Xtreme fights, along with one Jiu-Jitsu.”

The co-featured event is a female bantamweight match between Gisele “Gi” Moreira (9-4-0, SFT: 1-0-0), winner in a Contender Series, takes on Ketlen “Esquentadinha” Souza (10-3-0, SFT: 0-0-0) for the vacant SFT MMA Flyweight Championship. Souza is a late replacement for Karine “Killer” Santos, who recently signed to fight in the UFC Contender Series.

Other slated MMA matches include former UFC heavyweight Wagner Silva (9-8-0, SFT: 1-1-0) vs. Douglas Rakchal (12-6-0, SFT: 0-1-0), SFT debuting strawweight Andressa “Gauchinha” Romero (3-1-0) vs. Andreia “Thai” Serafim (4-1-0, SFT: 2-1-0), and undefeated welterweight Matheus Rocha (3-0-0, SFT 3-0-0) vs. Julio Spadaccini (4-1-0, SFT: 1-1-0).

There will be three wildly popular, uniquely entertaining SFT Xtreme matches, which allows striking, kicking and knees, fighters wear 4-ounce gloves, and clinching and fighting on the mat is prohibited.

South American kickboxing champion Vinicius Dionzio (40-8 kickboxing) vs. One Championship welterweight Carlos “Carlao” Prates (83-10 Muay Thai 43 KOs), lightweight Carlos Morais vs. Fernando Williams, and female strawweight Nagilla “Goku” Bruno vs. Simone Batista are the three scheduled Xtreme matches.

Welterweight Wellington “Predador” Prado, who sports an 11-2-0 MMA record, meets Janio “Vitamina” Rodrigues in the SFT Jiu-Jitsu match. This is a rematch of an MMA fight at SFT 6 that “Predador” won.

Opening the card is a special presentation, Combat Karate, matching Brazil Karate Champion Adson Araujo versus Gabriel Azevedo, a Pan-American Games Silver medalist in karate.

Card subject to change.
