As expected, as a result of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira being unable to fight Cheick Kongo as scheduled at UFC 149, the promotion has confirmed that Shawn Jordan will step in to replace the former interim heavyweight champion.

Nogueira reportedly requires more time to recover from the broken arm he sustained against Frank Mir in December, and as a result, he has become the latest fighter to be scratched from a UFC event this summer.

Jordan (13-3) is coming off a second round, stoppage of Oli Thompson at his UFC debut in March, after tapping out Lavar Johnson with a keylock at a Strikeforce Challengers card in September.

The Jackson’s MMA fighter is 4-1 in his last five bouts.

Kongo (17-7) is looking to rebound from a second round, stoppage loss he suffered versus Mark Hunt at UFC 144 in February, which ended the French heavyweight’s four fight undefeated streak.

UFC 149 will be hosted by Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome and will feature a fight between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao for the interim bantamweight title in the main event.
