Shinya Aoki vs. Rob McCullough, Satoru Kitaoka vs. Willamy Freire Added to DREAM 17

By FCF Staff

DREAM has added two noteworthy lightweight tilts to its upcoming, September 24th event, as Shinya Aoki will take on Rob McCullough (pictured) and Satoru Kitaoka will face Willamy Freire.

Aoki (28-5) is riding a five fight win streak which includes victories over Tatsuya Kawajiri, Marcus Aurelio and most recently Rich Clementi. The DREAM Lightweight Champion’s belt will not be on the line when he faces McCullough.

McCullough (19-7) will be looking to get back on track after the former WEC champ was stopped by Patricky Freire at Bellator 33 in March. Prior to that, the veteran had won two straight, scoring victories over Isaac DeJesus and Corey Hill.

Kitoaka (28-10-9) has won three straight bouts after the former Sengoku champion dropped back-to-back losses to Jorge Masvidal and Mizuto Hirota. Most recently, Kitaoka earned a UD win over Jutaro Nakao in April while competing for DEEP.

Freire (19-4) hasn’t fought since January when he lost by unanimous decision to Waylon Lowe at the UFC’s second “Fight for the Troops” event. The defeat ended the Shooto veteran’s 11 fight winning streak.

DREAM 17 will be hosted by the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, and will feature the opening round of the promotion’s world bantamweight grand-prix.
