Siyar Bahadurzada Stepping in for Injured Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 149
By FCF Staff
Welterweight Siyar Bahadurzada will look to build on his memorable, first round knockout of Paulo Thiago last month against former number one contender Thiago Alves at UFC 149.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today that Bahadurzada is replacing the injured Yoshihiro Akiyama on the July 21st card, which will be hosted by Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome.
No details regarding the nature of Akiyama’s injury were released.
With the aforementioned win, which also was the noted striker’s Octagon debut, Bahadurzada (21-4) extended his win streak to seven.
Alves (19-9) will be looking to rebound from a second round, submission loss he suffered while facing Martin Kampmann at the second UFC on FX card in March.
The accomplished welterweight has gone 2-3 since he fought and lost by decision to champion Georges St. Pierre in July, 2009.
UFC 149 will be headlined by a featherweight bout between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Erik Koch.
