MMA veteran Spencer Fisher didn’t confirm he will retire after his unanimous decision loss to Sam Stout at UFC on FX 4 on Friday night. Instead, he admits that his time inside the cage is waning, and that “time is ticking,” but things are still up in the air for him.

The trilogy fight earned both fighters Fight of the Night bonuses after the fight, with Stout winning two of the three fights.

Here is what he had to say via The Underground:

“I would like to say thanks to everybody that has supported me throughout my career. But, I can’t keep losing and expect to keep a career in fighting when you are losing more than you are winning. Last night I did not get hurt once and found my range and felt like my old self again. I was having fun again! Congrats to Stout, he always brings out the best in me. He did throw me off with his wrestling, I was expecting to be a mostly stand up fight. But this is MMA not boxing. Thank you Dana White, Joe Silva and all you fans for your support. And of course everyone that has helped me get here, there are too many of you to name. I am not closing the door just yet, but I am not jumping into anything either. Time is ticking for me.”

Fisher has lost three of his last five fights, though just one fight – against Thiago Tavares – ended in a finish. Even though I still think he’s willing to leave it all in the cage for fans, I wonder if it’s time for the UFC to step in and ask him to retire – there is no reason for him to sustain even more damage in the cage, after a successful 10-year career.

However, UFC President Dana White said that “Spencer Fisher looked as good as he’s ever looked” during the trilogy fight, and “maybe he’ll rethink (retirement).”
