In the past, you may have read about FCF reporter Marc Scott’s journey to Thailand where he trained and fought Muay Thai. Ever the world traveler, Marc is currently on a new quest, this time to beautiful Brazil, where he will "drink from the source" at the new Gracie Camp…  Part One: Rio De Janeiro
Gracie Camp is a new idea in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a luxury camp set in a suburb of Rio where the participants are pampered to, fed a special diet devised by the late Carlos Gracie Sr. and get to train under the watchful eye of Jiu-jitsu champions. Limited to fifteen participants, the camp offers ten days of intensive Jiu-Jitsu and a chance to experience some of the best training Rio has to offer. Though I had seen pictures on the website (www.graciecamp.com) I was not sure what to expect, pictures can often be misleading, and I doubted they would show anything but the best of the camp. As Rio and then the city disappeared behind us I was wondering just how far out we would be going. Beaches were replaced with small farms and sun-tanning Brazilians with workers on Horseback. Weaving through the small dirt roads we came to the camp. Everything I had seen couldn’t have prepared me for this, a virtual oasis set in the hills surrounding Rio. The "camp" was in reality a large home on a beautiful green space. Gone was the noise and pollution of Rio, replaced instead with birds and grass, and the sound of a quick pick-up game of soccer. The rooms were large and offered every amenity, even better than the pictures promised, I mean the have gold faucets and my bathroom has a personal jet bath. More on Marc’s adventure soon! |

From the event’s promoter: Black, Sylvia Stay Unbeaten With Wins at Extreme 42  DAVENPORT, Iowa — Jason Black got his 13th win on a Friday, but all the bad luck seemingly bit his opponent. Cedric Marks, a tough striker from Texas, had hoped a spider bite on his arm had healed enough to allow him to compete in the main event at Extreme Challenge 42 at Stars & Stripes. However, the severe injury caused his fingers to tingle and his arm to "go numb" and he tapped out to a forearm choke at 3:03 of the first round. "I hoped it would be OK, but when my arm went numb there was no way I was going to let (Black) pound on me," Marks said. "I’ll have to let this heal and then I would really like a rematch to show what I can do." For Black, it was another impressive win en route to the 13-0 record. After getting a takedown, Black landed a forearm smash before applying the choke. In the battle of the night, big 6-foot-8 Tim Sylvia remained unbeaten (5-0) with a unanimous decision after 15 minutes over 6-5 Ben Rothwell. The two big men took turns handing out punishment and show terrific endurance for heavyweights. Cedric Stewart won a 4-man tourney that decided who would represent the Midwest in Extreme Challenge 44 in Lake Charles, La. Stewart, from Springfield, Ill., defeated Gabe Lemley by TKO at 2:18 of round 3 (12:18), then bested Shane Wiggand by rear choke at 4:39 of round 1 in the finals. Jason Medina scored a TKO victory over veteran Brian Dunn of Omaha at 4:38 of round 2. Medina is now 5-1, while Dunn fell to 33-6. In a tag-team submission wrestling match, the team of Matt Hughes, Jens Pulver and Mark Hanssen defeated Pat Miletich, Tony Frykland and Steve Rusk by a 2-0 score in just under 10 minutes.
