Stephen Thompson Vows to be Back “Better Than Ever”, Following UFC 296 Defeat
By FCF Staff
Stephen Thompson is about to turn 41 years old. But, it seems pretty clear “Wonderboy” has no intention of hanging up the gloves, following his latest defeat.
Thompson faced rising, welterweight contender, Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 296 last weekend, and was submitted in round two. More recently, the vaunted striker commented on the bout and his future, via his YouTube channel (quotes via MMA Junkie.com).
“I appreciate all of your support after the fight this past Saturday,” Thompson said. “It obviously didn’t go the way I wanted it to go, and that’s why you should always follow the plan, guys. I didn’t follow the plan. That’s my fault.
“Anyway, I love you guys, and I’ll be back stronger and better than ever. I have some things to work on and get this foot healed up, and we’ll get after it again.”
The perennial contender also reportedly noted that he believes he broke his foot during the fight with Rakhmonov.
Thompson (17-7-1) was coming off a TKO win over Kevin Holland in December, 2022, and has gone 2-3 in his last 5 fights.
