Takanori Gomi and Nate Diaz Agree to UFC 135 Bout

By FCF Staff

Takanori Gomi will soon have fought both of the famous Diaz brothers, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced today that the Japanese lightweight and Stockton’s Nate Diaz have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 135. (Pictured: Gomi (left) in his memorable bout with Nick Diaz)

The bout is scheduled to take place September 24th at Denver, Colorado’s Pepsi Center.

Gomi (32-7) will be looking to rebound from a second round, submission loss to Clay Guida in January, after knocking out Tyson Griffin at UFC Live 2 last August. The former Pride champion has gone 1-2 to date in the Octagon.

Gomi fought Nate’s older brother Nick Diaz at Pride 33 in February, 2007, and was submitted by the current Strikeforce welterweight champ. The bout was declared a no contest afterwards, however, due to Diaz testing positive for marijuana use.

Nate Diaz (13-7) will be returning to lightweight after dropping back-to-back bouts to welterweights Dong Hyun Kim and most recently Rory MacDonald. Diaz’s last win came at UFC 118 last August, when he choked out fellow TUF vet Marcus Davis.

UFC 135 will be headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between champion Jon Jones and former champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
