From John Petrilli (RITC):

RITC 43 – Results
Asher Combat Academy Goes 5-0

The evening started with a Capoeria demonstration followed by the traditional RITC "Walk of the Warriors". A Marine color guard presented our flag and the national anthem was sung by former Oakland Raiderette, Dawn.

Asher Combat Academy "swept the board" going 5-0. The most impressive win belonged to Andy Montana. Despite giving up 60 pounds in weight, Andy was able to post a first round submission victory over Cory Timmerman to put a stop to Cory’s 3 fight win streak. Andy’s three young daughters joined him in celebration on the ramp just outside the cage.

This performance earned Fighter of the Night (FOTN) honors for Andy. Other candidates for FOTN were Joseph Riggs, Vince Lucero, Roger Mejia, Kyle Brees, Matt Asher and Rich Moss.

The night ended on a "sour note" when the Main Event was declared a "no contest" because of premature referee stoppage (arm bar). Forty-six seconds into round 1, Dewees was working for an arm bar. Medina had neither tapped nor verbally submitted. The referee stopped the match for "fighter safety". At this level of competition, it’s imperative for the fighters to determine the outcome of the match, leading to the "no contest" ruling.

On a positive note, Joseph Riggs posted an impressive 52-second victory over Herb Dean. Joseph can now focus on his big showdown match with Rodney Faverus in K-1 The Netherlands on April 6, 2003.
