Islam Makhachev has long been compared to his friend and teammate, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and this has only increased since the latter and former champ retired. But, Thiago Moises, isn’t buying his next opponent is on the same level as Khabib.

The lightweight contender has drawn extensive, comparisons to Khabib, on account of Makhachev’s impressive, grappling-centric game. In addition, Nurmagomedov and his team are confident the 29-year-old will become UFC champion.

But, while discussing Makhachev and Nurmagomedov recently, Moises outlined why he believes the latter’s much different (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“I think Khabib has a higher pace than him,” Moises said. “Khabib doesn’t stop. More pressure. I think Islam is a little bit more technical on the feet. For me, Khabib is the best lightweight of all time. Nobody’s like Khabib, and Islam is definitely not like Khabib. That’s the biggest difference between them, is, I think, the pace.”

Makhachev and Moises are scheduled to fight in the headliner of UFC Vegas 31, which will be hosted by the Apex Facility.

Moises (15-4) is coming off a decision win over Alex Hernandez in February and has won three straight.

Makhachev (19-1) submitted Drew Dober in his last outing, which went down in March. The lightweight has won seven in a row.
