Tim Sylvia Scores 12 Second KO

By Michael Hatamoto

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia is desperate for another chance to fight in the UFC octagon, and must continue to pick up wins to earn another shot.

Sylvia did just that when he finished journeyman Randy Smith in only 12 seconds during the main event of the New England Fight’s Fight Night III event in Maine.

Sylvia dropped Smith with a right hand, and swarmed on him with ground and pound until the referee stepped in to save the clearly overmatched opponent.

“I can’t tell you how much it means to be able to fight back here in Maine,” Sylvia said post-fight. “It almost makes me cry just thinking about it. I’ve trained 10 weeks for this fight. I just went out and executed my game plan,” the Bangor Daily News reports.

Sylvia, a former UFC heavyweight champion, had a falling out with UFC President Dana White, which may doom an even slight possibility of a UFC return.

I’m not overly impressed – and don’t expect to see him back in the UFC. Some fans believe a potential matchup with Daniel Cormier would give the UFC flexibility to invite him back and immediately cut him if he lost. Furthermore, Cormier needs someone to fight inside the Strikeforce cage, as the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner needs a plus-one fight.
