Not long after it appeared that Tito Ortiz had turned down an opportunity to replace the injured Phil Davis at UFC 133 versus Rashad Evans, news broke later today that Ortiz has indeed decided to take the fight. UFC President Dana White announced the updated August 6^th bout on his Twitter account before it was also confirmed on the promotion’s website.

When it was initially reported that Davis would be unable to compete due to a knee injury, Ortiz seemed to indicate on his Twitter account that he was not going to fight Evans on short notice, citing the importance of “timing”” and “making the right choices” for his career.

Ortiz evidently had a change of heart, as a follow up ‘tweet’ from the former light-heavyweight champ stated:

I’m an average man with a monster heart. UFC asked me for my help and I’m here for them. Just want to show my true character by stepping up. Lets go!

Earlier there were reports that Lyoto Machida may replace Davis, but no official confirmation ever materialized.

Ortiz  (16-8-1) recently prevented his UFC dismissal by tapping out Ryan Bader with a first round, guillotine choke on July 2^nd. The win was the first for Ortiz since October, 2006, and ended the 36 year-old fighter’s five fight winless streak.

In their first meeting, Ortiz and Evans battled to a draw at UFC 73 in July, 2007. Since then Evans (15-1-1) has gone 5-1, with his most recent win coming last May, when he scored a unanimous decision victory over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

UFC 133 will be hosted by the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
