Tony Ferguson has said he won’t sign on to face Khabib Nurmagomedov again unless some new terms are added to his contract, and the lightweight contender has repeated that sentiment.

Ferguson was booked to fight Nurmagomedov for the interim, 155 title at UFC 209 earlier this month. But, the latter ran into medical issues while trying to make weight, and the fight was cancelled on the day of the weigh-ins. It marked the third time a bout between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov has been called off.

“El Cucuy” appeared on the latest “UFC Tonight” Wednesday, and not surprisingly, he was asked about whether he’s still interested in fighting Nurmagomedov. Here is what Ferguson had to say (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“I would love to have the fight, but putting up with the camp again, it puts a salty taste in my mouth. It’s like swimming in the ocean. You know it’s good for you, but it doesn’t taste good. Yes, it’s a fight I want and it’s a fight that fans want to see. There would have to be some assurances in place.”

The lightweight was also asked if he’d be satisfied competing for the 155 championship, if Conor McGregor vacated the belt:

“It doesn’t matter. It depends on where McGregor’s heart is. I want to fight someone who wants to fight. I want to fight a top contender. I’ve put in my fights. If he wants to pursue victory in boxing, then vacate the belt and we’ll fight for the belt at International Fight Week against someone else. The only person I’d really like to go toe-to-toe with is Nate Diaz.”

The 33 year-old Ferguson is currently riding a nine fight, winning streak.
