It remains to be seen how Will Brooks does against Ross Pearson next week, but the former Bellator champ believes he’ll be in the UFC’s lightweight, title shot mix soon.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the UFC announced that it had signed Brooks to a deal, and that he will battle Pearson, July 8th. Recently the well rounded fighter appeared on “UFC Tonight“, and while discussing whether he believes he’s at a championship level with the promotion, he stated (quote via FOX Sports press release):

“Right now, I’m fighting a guy not in the top 10, but I had to take the opportunity. I’ve taken a few months off and I’m ready to get in there and compete. I’ve been like a caged animal. It’s going to be a short run for me. I’m going to show people what I can do and I’ll be in the title contention very soon.”

The 27 year-old Brooks (17-1) arrives in the UFC having won eight straight fights. Pearson (19-10), meanwhile, is coming off a split decision win over Chad Laprise, and is 3-2 in his last 5 contests.

“People know me and what I bring to the table. I get better every single fight. I get better with high level talent. Now I’m at the top of the mountain with the best of fighters, I’m putting work in and I’m going to give him a long night, show him athleticism, strength, mentally he’s never seen,” Brooks said about Pearson. I can confuse him mentally. It’s going to be a long night for Ross Pearson and an entertaining one for the fans.”

The TUF 23 Finale will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
