“Tyson Jeffries is a fighter with incredible heart and a determination to consistently improve his game; he adds depth and excitement to every card and he’s a welcome addition on M-1’s second televised event on Showtime,” M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan was quoted saying in the official announcement. “The European fighters who participated in the March card set an extremely high bar this time out. Guseinov has been very vocal about making this an entertaining battle.”

Jeffries (7-5) is coming off a stoppage loss to Magomed Sultanakhmedov in March, after defeating Mike Geurin, Plinio Cruz, and Mike Johnson in 2010 to win M-1 Globa’s Americas Selection middleweight tourney.

“That was the toughest fight of my career and a humbling experience,” said Jeffries while discussing his last outing. “I’ve since spent time training in Las Vegas and in the U.K. and I’m ready to redeem myself with a much improved performance. Thank you to M-1 for the opportunity. It’s an honor to be on their second Showtime card.”

Guseinov (7-2) will also be looking to get back on track after dropping back-to-back bouts to Beslan Isaev and most recently UFC vet Luigi Fioravanti, who submitted him in the fourth round at M-1 Challenge 22 in December. The experienced striker has recorded five victories by knockout or TKO.

The July 8th, M-1 Challenge event, which will be hosted by The Hangar in Mesa, will feature a heavyweight bout between Kenny Garner and Pat Bennett in the main event.

The card will be broadcast on Showtime beginning at 11:00PM ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).
