Although Ray Borg has won three straight, and has moved into the #13 ranking, the rising flyweight understands a fight with title shot implications may not materialize just yet.

Borg is coming off an impressive and memorable decision win over Geane Herrera at UFC Fight Night 73 last weekend, which moved his Octagon record to 3-1. The only man who has defeated Borg to date is Dustin Ortiz, who earned a split decision victory over the 22 year-old in his UFC debut. Ortiz is currently ranked #10.

Well, following Borg’s most recent win he appeared on Full Contact Fighter Radio, and while discussing his short term future, the flyweight stated:

“The request by me is to fight as soon as possible,whenever, whoever,” said Borg. “Whether it’s top ten, top two, top five, whatever, I want to fight anybody. From what it sounds like the UFC has plans other than just to rush me into a title shot like they do everybody else. I think I’ll continue to fight a few more guys that are legit, outside the rankings, like for example a Louis Smolka.”

“I would really like to fight with Justin Scoggins,” furthered Borg (9-1). “I would love that fight, and I know he just cracked the top 15. I’d love to fight Justin Scoggins. I just think that would make a hell of a fight.”

Scoggins (10-2) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Josh Sampo in May, and is currently ranked #15 at 125. The 23 year-old, American Top Team fighter, who had gone undefeated until he was defeated by Ortiz and John Moraga, isn’t currently booked for a bout either.

“But, it’s all about what the UFC wants,” added Borg. “I have to go off what Tom (Vaughn) and what the UFC wants for me because what I want is a little too fighter minded…what I mean by that is I just want to go in there and fight whoever, and I don’t care who it is.”

“We’re trying to play things out smart, take the right fights, at the right time, and the good fun fights will come later down the road. One thing I do have to remind myself is that I am only 22.”

Borg is also eager to showcase all the elements of his game in the Octagon, as so far, it’s been his grappling that has drawn considerable praise.

“I’ve been frustrated because I haven’t shown my stand-up,” the FIT NHB fighter noted. “Pretty soon I’m going to have to stop talking about my stand-up and when I finally show it, people will understand, because I can throw hands. I throw hands with some of the best boxers in the southwest. But I got to realize that TJ Dillashaw is one of the best strikers in the business, and he didn’t throw hands for the first few of his fights, he was a straight wrestler…”
