UFC 136: Phan, Garcia, Lauzon and Edgar Collect Bonuses
By FCF Staff
Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia are no strangers to memorable bouts, and the featherweight’s once again made good on their reputations last night at UFC 136 in Houston, by engaging in a wild and entertaining slugfest. The two veterans were awarded “Fight of the Night” honors for their efforts and collected an additional $75,000.
Phan won the instant classic by unanimous decision.
“Submission of the Night” and an additional $75,000 went to Joe Lauzon, who after stunning rising lightweight Melvin Guillard with a left hook, promptly finished the fight with a follow up rear-naked-choke.
And “Knockout of the Night” went to lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, who just as he did in January, survived several vicious punches from Gray Maynard in round one, to begin a comeback in round two. This time, however, Edgar didn’t leave the bout in the hands of the judge’s, as after stunning Maynard with a punch in round four, he finished the fight with several more strikes that left the challenger dazed and face down on the mat.
