UFC 164: Anthony Pettis Ends Benson Henderson’s Reign

Pettis

By FCF Staff

Anthony Pettis prevented Benson Henderson from setting a new record for title defenses at 155 tonight in Milwaukee, as the feared striker tapped out the highly regarded fighter to lay claim to the UFC’s lightweight title.

Henderson came out aggressively and looked to take Pettis down to the mat, but after a few minutes the feared striker was able to land a couple of hard kicks to the champion’s body. Henderson landed a takedown as the opening round neared its end, but Pettis quickly secured a tight looking armbar, which forced the BJJ black belt to verbally submit.

After the bout Pettis called out featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who he was originally scheduled to fight earlier this month, before Henderson confessed his arm “was killing” to UFC commentator Joe Rogan.

In the co-main-event, Josh Barnett came out firing against Frank Mir, and after some early exchanges he started working the former champ over along the Octagon fence. Barnett ended up flooring Mir with a hard knee to the head, and as the heavyweight tried to recover the referee brought the fight to a halt. Despite Mir’s protests that the fight had been stopped prematurely, Barnett was awarded the TKO win in his long awaited UFC return.

Here are the official results for UFC 164, which was hosted by Milwaukee’s Bradley Center.
