UFC 165 will feature a clash between two of its rising middleweights, as the promotion has announced that Costa Philippou will take on Francis Carmont at the event. UFC 165 will be hosted by Toronto’s Air Canada Centre on September 21st.

Philippou (12-2) has won five straight bouts now in the Octagon to work his way into the #7 rankings slot. The 33 year-old hasn’t fought since UFC 155 last December, when he stopped Tim Boetsch in the third round.

Most recently he was scheduled to fight “Jacare” Souza at UFC on FX 8 in May, but he suffered a cut during training and had to withdraw from the bout.

Carmont (21-7) is currently riding a 10 fight win streak and has also won five straight in the Octagon. Most recently the 31 year-old worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Lorenz Larkin.

UFC 165 will be headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between champion Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson.
