UFC 165: Ivan Menjivar vs. “Kid” Yamamoto Confirmed
By FCF Staff
As expected, the September 21st, UFC 165 card in Toronto, Ontario will feature a bantamweight bout between established vets Ivan Menjivar and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto. The UFC Canada Twitter account confirmed the match-up on Monday.
Menjivar (25-10) will be looking to rebound from a submission loss he suffered versus Urijah Faber in February, as he was forced to tap-out to a opening round, rear-naked-choke. Prior to the defeat, Menjivar caught Azamat Gashimov with an armbar in round one at UFC 154 last November. The 31 year-old Tristar fighter is 3-2 in his last five bouts.
Yamamoto (18-6) is in a must win situation, as the Japanese vet is coming off consecutive losses to Demetrious Johnson, Darren Uyenoyama and most recently Vaughan Lee. The 36 year-old-bantamweight knocked out Federico Lopez at DREAM 14 in May, 2010, before joining the UFC.
UFC 165 will be hosted by Toronto’s Air Canada Centre and will feature light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones taking on Alexander Gustafsson in the main event.
