Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson were in Toronto, Ontario today to promote their September 21st bout in the city, but the UFC light-heavyweight champ was predictably asked several questions about Anderson Silva’s historic defeat Saturday. After all, as a result of Silva’s loss to Chris Weidman, any plans for a super fight between the legend and Jones have been ditched.

Jones relayed today that Silva’s loss served as a “reality check”, but that he would “never fight like that”, in reference to the legend’s taunting that preceded the knock out.

“Bones” also praised Silva for his world class abilities, but added that the former champ “abused” and “disrespected the gifts”.

Although the 18-1 fighter has been moved into the #1 slot on the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings as a result of Silva’s loss, Jones dismissed the accolade. The fighter said because he hasn’t won as many records as men like Silva or Georges St. Pierre, “it doesn’t sit well with me.”

The Jones-Gustafsson bout will headline UFC 165, which will be hosted by Toronto’s Air Canada Centre.
