UFC 167: Chael Sonnen Challenges Rashad Evans to Fight

Chael Sonnen

By FCF Staff

With Wanderlei Silva reportedly unable to fight until 2014, and Vitor Belfort set to fight Dan Henderson on November 9th, Chael Sonnen has challenged Rashad Evans to fight at UFC 167. Sonnen has been open about the fact he wants to compete on the promotion’s upcoming, 20th anniversary card, and since his initial prospect opponents are not available, he’s called out Evans.

Sonnen made the challenge via Twitter by posting:

@SugaRashadEvans Hey Rashad, let me ask you a question… You busy Nov 16th?

To which, Evans responded:

@sonnench Nah not really!! What’s up?

Sonnen proceeded to tweet a picture of a UFC 167 poster with the two of them on it, and then Evans replied:

that looks like a good idea to me! I knew you had something you really wanted to say to me yesterday on the show!

The UFC has not made any announcement regarding the proposed fight. Sonnen is coming off a first round, submission win over “Shogun” Rua at UFC Fight Night 26 earlier this month, while Evans last fought in June and scored a split decision win over Dan Henderson.

UFC 167 will be hosted by the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will feature welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre taking on Johny Hendricks in the main event.
