Even after Anderson Silva lost the middleweight championship to Chris Weidman at UFC 162 in July, the legendary fighter said he intended to complete his ten fight contract with the promotion. Immediately following the loss, he also said he had no interest in pursuing the championship any more, but not long after Silva changed his mind and a rematch was booked for UFC 168.

While Silva repeatedly said in pre-fight interviews that he has no plans to hang up the gloves after Saturday, in a recent interview with MMA Fighting.com, the 38 year-old relayed it is a possibility. In fact, depending on how you read Silva’s comments, the Brazilian fighter may have said there’s a “great chance” Saturday will be his last fight.

Silva was asked why he wasn’t wearing Nike clothing, and the former champ responded by saying that was a question for UFC President Dana White. Shortly after, the fighter was asked if Saturday could be his last bout, and Silva stated “maybe”. Then Silva was asked to give a percentage on the likelihood it could be his last, and he said “I don’t know. I a great, great chance for stopping the fight.”

There’s certainly a chance that was Silva was trying to convey is that he may retire if he loses to Weidman again, which is what many pundits and fans suspect could happen. Although Silva has said he has no plans to retire in other interviews, another defeat to the “All American” would be a serious setback to his title shot prospects.

UFC 168 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
