UFC 171: Johny Hendricks Says “It’s All About The Belt”, Not The Person Behind It

Hendricks

Johny Hendricks and plenty of fans may have thought he defeated Georges St. Pierre at UFC 167 in November, but “Bigg Rigg” continues to insist his main focus is to hold the welterweight title, rather than avenge his loss to the former champ.

Since St. Pierre decided to walk away from fighting, Hendricks will get a chance to lay claim to the vacant title once again, when he battles Robbie Lawler at UFC 171 on Saturday. According to the powerful welterweight, a shot at championship gold is all that matters (quote via UFC.com):

“Georges St-Pierre was the person holding the belt the whole time I’ve been trying to get it,” he said. “So that’s why I always said I want to beat Georges St-Pierre. Now if it was Robbie Lawler or Carlos Condit, I’d be looking at those guys. It’s all about the belt, it’s not about the person behind it for me. That 20-pound belt that Dana White puts around your waist, that’s what it’s about.”

UFC 171 will be hosted by the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
