Varner

By FCF Staff

UFC 173 has picked up a lightweight fight, as the promotion has announced that former WEC champ Jamie Varner will battle James Krause at the May 24th event. The upcoming card will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will feature middleweight champ Chris Weidman taking on Vitor Belfort in the headliner.

Varner (21-9-1) is coming off a KO loss to Abel Trujillo at UFC 169 in February, after dropping a split decision loss to Gleison Tibau last August. The 29 year-old fighter is 2-3 in his last 5 contests.

Krause (20-5) will be looking to rebound from a stoppage loss to Bobby Green in November, after he tapped out Sam Stout at UFC 161 last June. The 27 year-old fighter is 4-1 in his last 5 bouts and 8-2 in his last 10.

Other bouts that have been announced for UFC 173 to date include Sam Sicilia vs. Doo Ho Choi and Chris Holdsworth vs. Kyung Ho Kang.
