UFC 179: Dana White Praises Phil Davis For Win, Latter Explains Anderson Silva Call Out

Phil Davis never appeared to be close to finishing Glover Teixeira, but the decorated wrestler still scored a dominant, decision win over the light-heavyweight contender nonetheless.

Teixeira was able to defend several of the American’s takedowns early on, but as the fight wore on, Davis took the fight to the ground consistently and landed punches from the side.

Speaking to FOX Sports 2 after the bout, UFC President Dana White had nothing but praise for Davis (quote via FOX Sports press release):

“Yes,” said White Glover is a guy who hits hard and has good wrestling. Davis did a great job. He completely dominated the fight after the first round.”

After Davis had been announced as the winner, he proceeded to announce he would love to fight the legendary Anderson Silva. The call out seemed to surprise the cage side Silva, who has predominantly fought at middleweight in recent years.

Davis explained his wish to FOX Sports by saying:

“He’s the triple crown of Brazilians. He’s fought tough guys out of his class before. He’s a great guy. I have nothing but respect for him. This is the fight game. It’s nothing personal. He’s the best there is.”

Last night’s victory returned Davis to the winning column, as he was decisioned by Anthony Johnson this past April at UFC 172.
