UFC 182: Daniel Cormier Predicting “Tailspin” for Jon Jones After Upcoming Fight
By FCF Staff
Daniel Cormier is hoping to end the lengthy reign of light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 182, and the challenger says if he does, the renowned fighter’s days as an elite fighter will end.
Jones and Cormier are set to fight on January 3rd, and the latter recently spoke to “UFC Tonight” about the upcoming bout. When asked what about Jones could change, provided Cormier defeats the champion, “DC” stated (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“I think he falls back in the pack. He’ll get a rematch, but he’ll fall back. Once he knows he can get beat and no one is scared of him, he won’t win ten in a row anymore. He’ll win some and he’ll lose some. He’ll go searching for answers and move to heavyweight. It’ll put doubt and questions in his head. He’ll come out a different man. He might need to be convinced to take the rematch. He’ll lose to me and his career will go in a tailspin. I’m looking to rid MMA of Jon Jones.”
Cormier will be competing for the first time since he choked out Dan Henderson in May, while Jones is coming off a decision win over Glover Teixeira in April.
Jones won the UFC title in 2011 by stopping “Shogun” Rua, and has defended the belt now seven times.
UFC 182 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
