Anthony Pettis is hoping to defeat Rafael dos Anjos tonight at UFC 185, and if he does, he’ll take another step towards becoming one of the sport’s greatest fighters.

Heading into tonight’s fight, Pettis is ranked #5 in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings, and many observers believe “Showtime” could rule the lightweight division for some time.

Recently, Duke Roufus was quoted in a story about Pettis at UFC.com, and while discussing the fighter’s abilities and ambition, the accomplished coach stated:

“You have to start a sport with the end in mind,” Roufus said. “The goal when he started was not just to be a champion, but the greatest of all time. That’s where I think a lot of athletes in the sport have a disconnect. They get involved and think, ‘Hey, cool. I’m in the UFC. Maybe I’ll get a title shot.’ If you’re not in this to be the best of all time, I think you need to pick a different job.”

Pettis defended the lightweight title in December, by submitting Gilbert Melendez, while dos Anjos (23-7) locked up a title shot that same month by defeating Nate Diaz.

UFC 185 will be hosted by the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
