Chris Weidman will return to the Octagon at UFC 187, and when he does, the middleweight champ will be looking to take another step towards becoming the greatest fighter of all time.

Weidman will be competing for the first time since last July, when he decisioned the renowned Lyoto Machida at UFC 175. The victory was the 12th of Weidman’s career, and followed consecutive victories over the legendary Anderson Silva.

Well, on Saturday, Weidman will take on another of the sport’s greats in Vitor Belfort, who’s coming off three consecutive stoppage wins. A victory over “The Phenom” would be another, compelling achievement for “The All American”.

Weidman appeared on “UFC Tonight” this week, and while doing so, he stated:

“I’m excited. I’ve been thinking about him for about a year,” Weidman say about Belfort. “I’m ready to get past him. Anderson Silva was on my mind for six years. I’m ready to run right through this guy, dominate him and make a statement

“When I got into the sport, my goal was to beat Anderson Silva and win the belt, and then have an immediate rematch and beat him again. That’s where my dreams ended. Now it’s about my legacy – completely dominating my division, being the best of all time and retiring undefeated. Going out there and proving all these doubters wrong.”

UFC 187 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
