UFC 188: Cain Velasquez vs. Fabricio Werdum to Headline

UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez

By FCF Staff

As expected, the UFC’s next trip to Mexico will feature heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez taking on interim champ, Fabricio Werdum.

The promotion has announced that the bout will headline UFC 188, which will be hosted by the Mexico City Arena on June 13th.

Werdum and Velasquez were supposed to fight at UFC 180 in November, which marked the promotion’s first event in Mexico. Velasquez went down with a knee injury, however, and Werdum secured the interim title by stopping Mark Hunt.

Velasquez (13-1) hasn’t fought now since October, 2013, when he TKO’d former champ Junior dos Santos in the fifth round. The renowned fighter and accomplished wrestler has won four straight bouts.

Werdum (19-5-1) is currently riding a five fight win streak, which also includes wins over top contenders like Travis Browne, Roy Nelson and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
