UFC 191: Andrei Arlovski Admits He Didn’t Take Frank Mir “Seriously”
By FCF Staff
Andrei Arlovski managed to grind his way to a decision win over Frank Mir at UFC 191, and following the fight, “The Pitbull” admitted he underestimated the decorated heavyweight.
Early on, the fight featured a few, notable striking exchanges, but Arlovski was largely unable to hurt Mir. By round three, the action had slowed considerably, but Arlovski did enough to emerge with the UD win.
After the bout, Arlovski had this to say about his performance, and Mir, while speaking with FOX Sports 1 (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“I said I was going to finish him in the first round. But I didn’t take him seriously. He got me a couple of times. In the third round I woke up. Of course I’m disappointed. I was surprised that he kept fighting all three rounds. I need to do something differently with my training.”
The victory was Arlovski’s sixth straight, and while the latest was somewhat underwhelming, the former champ will almost certainly face another top contender next. When asked about his next opponent, Arlovski stated:
“It’s totally up to the UFC. I’m going to take lessons from this fight. We need to do some changes.”
UFC went down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
