Although Ali Bagautinov is currently ranked #14 in the UFC’s flyweight division, Joseph Benavidez believes the Russian is the toughest man he can face at 125, outside of champion Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson.

Benavidez will take on Bagautinov tonight at UFC 192, in what will mark the first time the latter has fought, since he was decisioned by Johnson last June. After the bout, the heavy handed fighter tested positive for PEDs, and Bagautinov suspended for a year.

Recently Benavidez (22-4) spoke to UFC.com , and here is some of what the American had to say about Bagautinov (13-3):

“It’s the toughest fight I can get outside of Demetrious and Dodson, who just challenged for the title,” said Benavidez. “I think Bagautinov is the toughest fight out there. I think Bagautinov is the harder fight and that’s something I like and I enjoy, especially where his last fight was a title fight.

“Maybe someone else in my position would run from that – ‘Why would I fight this guy that has been off a year? That does nothing for me’ – but it’s the toughest fight and that’s what I’m out there to do.”

Benavidez, meanwhile, is coming off consecutive wins over Timothy Elliott, John Moraga and Dustin Ortiz. The Team Alpha Male fighter is currently tied with Dodson for the #1 ranking spot at 125.

UFC 192 will be hosted by the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
