UFC 194: Luke Rockhold Says Yoel Romero’s Performance Was “So-So”, Calls For Bout With Vitor Belfort

By FCF Staff

Although many believe Yoel Romero locked up a title shot on Saturday by defeating “Jacare” Souza, newly crowned champ Luke Rockhold, is calling for a bout with an old foe.

Romero worked his way to a split decision win over Souza at UFC 194, in what featured the UFC’s #3 and #2 middleweights respectively. Rockhold, on the other hand, took out Chris Weidman in the fourth round with punches, and handed the now former champ his first pro defeat.

After the card, Rockhold was asked about who he would like to fight next, and the champ told FOX Sports 1 the following (quote via FOX Sports press release):

“Looking at the roster, Yoel had a so-so performance, is that credible? What I would like? Vitor Belfort on a silver platter. I just want to rub it in. I’ve got to bring him down a little more.”

Rockhold fought Belfort in 2013, and the latter finished the fight with a highlight reel, spinning kick in the opening round. Rockhold has won five straight fights since.

Belfort, on the other hand, challenged Weidman this past May and was stopped in the first round. Most recently he quickly took out Dan Henderson to win their rubber match series.
