After knocking out Anthony Perosh at UFC 194, and winning three of his last four fights, Gian Villante believes the time’s right for him to make a run in the light-heavyweight division.

Villante (14-6) is scheduled to fight Ilir Latifi (11-4) at UFC 196 this Saturday, after defeating Perosh at UFC 193 in November. Recently the New York fighter spoke to UFC.com about this Saturday’s fight, and while doing so, Villante stated this:

“I think it’s that time and it’s definitely time to start making the push a little bit,” he said. “I’m starting to feel a lot more comfortable in there and that’s the biggest thing. It took me a little while to get my bearings in there, but I definitely feel a lot better now and I feel comfortable. I do think I can beat anyone in the division, so hopefully it’s just a matter of time until I get the chance, and that’s all it takes. I’ll be ready to go.”

Since Villante  lost by decision to Fabio Maldonado in 2014, he’s defeated Sean O’Connell, Corey Anderson and the aforementioned Perosh. Prior to facing the latter, Villante was stopped by Tom Lawlor.
