UFC 196 proved to be a night of upsets, as both Nate Diaz and Miesha Tate scored victories over Conor McGregor and Holly Holm respectively.

In the headliner, McGregor punished Diaz with some heavy left hands early on, and left Diaz bloody as round one concluded. In round two, however, Diaz stunned McGregor with a hard left cross, and after the fight spilled to the ground, he quickly secured a fight ending, rear-naked-choke.

After the bout, the normally brash McGregor admitted that he took a chance coming up to 170 pounds to face Diaz.

In the co-headliner, Miesha Tate secured the bantamweight title by choking out Holly Holm in round five. Tate threatened Holm early on in the bout with submission attempts, but the vaunted striker defended, and outscored the challenger over the proceeding rounds. In the final round, however, Tate took Holm to the mat once again and choked the latter out with a rear-naked-choke.
