UFC 199: Dan Henderson “Could Fight” For a Couple More Years But Uncertain About Future

Dan Henderson

Leading up to UFC 199, Dan Henderson hasn’t committed to fighting again after this weekend, and the legend stuck with that position on Thursday.

Henderson is booked to fight Hector Lombard tomorrow night, in what will be the 45 year-old fighter’s last fight on his current UFC deal. In recent weeks, “Hendo” has said his future in fighting depends on how things unfold on Saturday, and how contract talks proceed. During yesterday’s media day, the former PRIDE and Strikeforce champ stated (quote via UFC.com):

“I want to make sure I fulfill (my contractual obligation) and then decide what I’m going to do,” Henderson said. “I still may fight for a year or two and keep going on, or I may change up and do something different but still be involved in MMA. I’m just going to wait and see what my options are after the dust settles.

“This could actually be the last fight. I have no time in mind. I could fight if I wanted to two or three more years, but I don’t think I want to fight that long. If I decide to fight, it’ll be at least a couple of more after this one, but we’ll see.”

Henderson (31-14) is coming off a stoppage loss to Vitor Belfort in November. Lombard (34-5-1), meanwhile, was TKO’d by Neil Magny in March.
