On Wednesday, the UFC announced that Miesha Tate’s next opponent will be Amanda Nunes, and not Holly Holm or Ronda Rousey, and the new bantamweight champ has shared her thoughts.

Tate and Nunes will battle at UFC 200, which will take place on July 9th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tate appeared on the latest episode of “UFC Tonight” yesterday, and the well rounded fighter had this to say about fighting Nunes (quote via FOX Sports press release):

“She’s really tough. She’s on a four-fight win streak. She’s really dangerous. I asked to fight the next best person in line and that’s what they told me. I’m very, very excited for my first title defense. Ronda is out until November or December and Holly – it was her first defense and she wasn’t successful. I finished her.”

The new champ was also asked whether she believes her rival, and former champ, Ronda Rousey should receive a title shot when she returns. Tate offered this response:

“I think if she wants it, she should get it. She was the best for a long time. She has a tall order. I’m at the top of my game. I’m on a five-fight win streak and I have an amazing camp behind me. I’m ready to defend this thing.”

Rousey, who lost the title to Holly Holm in November, is expected to return to the UFC this November or December.
