UFC 201: Tyron Woodley Says He’s “Been Working on” Some Things, Ring Rust Not an Issue
By FCF Staff
Although Tyron Woodley hasn’t fought since January, 2015, the welterweight contender says ring rust won’t be an issue tomorrow night when he battles Robbie Lawler.
Woodley has been booked to face the champion at UFC 201, after a title shot eliminator with Johny Hendricks fell through in October, due to the latter’s weight cutting issues. In Woodley’s last bout, at UFC 183 last January, he earned a decision win over Kelvin Gastelum.
Woodley appeared on the latest “UFC Tonight” this week, and while discussing whether ring rust could play a factor in the bout, he stated (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“I don’t believe in ring rust. That’s if I was being rusty, not watching fights, not training, not staying in shape and not staying positive. You can’t charge that to my charge card. I’ve had a training camp. I’ve been working and training. I’ve been out of site and out of mind. I’ve got some things I’ve been working on.”
Lawler, meanwhile, fought this past January and earned a split decision win over Carlos Condit.
