Although the signs seem to indicate that the UFC is looking at having Khabib Nurmagomedov challenge Eddie Alvarez, the new lightweight champ is still campaigning for a bout with the winner of Conor McGregor – Nate Diaz II.

Since Alvarez took out Rafael dos Anjos in the opening round last month, the decorated vet has said he wants to face the winner of the UFC 202 headliner. On August 20th, Diaz will look to defeat McGregor for a second time.

More recently, however, the UFC booked a bout between the #2 ranked RDA and the #3 positioned Tony Ferguson for November 5th. As a result, it’s believed that Alvarez will face the #1 contender Nurmagmedov.

But, in the latest edition of “UFC Tonight”, Alvarez reported the following (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“I’m going to head out to Vegas for UFC 202 and try to start a fight with the winner of Conor and Diaz. These guys are a part of the circus and I want to be part of the circus.”

Alvarez has won three straight fights now since he was decisioned by Donald Cerrone in 2014.
