UFC 205: Chris Weidman Says he Can Out Wrestle And Out Last Yoel Romero
By FCF Staff
Yoel Romero may be a former world champion and Olympic Silver Medalist in freestyle wrestling, but Chris Weidman is confident he’ll win any wrestling exchanges they have.
Weidman will take on Romero tonight at UFC 205, which will take place in New York City. Weidman appeared on the latest “UFC Tonight“, and while discussing Romero, the two time, All-American, NCAA Division 1 wrestler stated (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“Any time there’s a wrestling exchange, it favors me. He gets tired quickly. He can beat me at freestyle wrestling, but college wrestling is different and MMA wresting is even more different. This is the first three-round fight I’ve been in in a while, so I can go balls to the wall the whole time.”
Romero will be competing for the first time since last December, when he earned a split decision win over fellow contender “Jacare” Souza. Weidman, also hasn’t fought since December, when he was stopped by Luke Rockhold.
